A NEW forum aimed at improving bus services in the city has been launched.

The Bus Users’ Forum, which consists of local volunteers, aims to boost passenger numbers and in turn, alleviate some of the pressures on local infrastructure, air quality and public health.

The group, which has secured backing from First Bus Services, one of the city’s main operators, also wants to provide an opportunity to update people on upcoming campaigns, initiatives and bus performance, including reliability, punctuality and customer service.

Forum spokesman Marjory Bisset said: “We hope that our input will help First Bus to provide a better service for residents of all ages, including some of the most vulnerable.

"Reliable and affordable bus services help to combat social isolation and improve access to local amenities.

"They can sometimes play a crucial role, for example, when a young person secures that first job or an elderly or frail person gets to an important medical appointment.”

Nigel Eggleton, managing director of First Worcester, said: “Through experience and sitting on many other forums across the Midlands areas, it (the forum) should provide everyone with a platform where constructive dialogue can take place and where bus users can discuss and ask questions on all aspects of bus travel across Worcestershire.”

All residents, but particularly those relying on public transport, are welcome to participate in a short survey that can be found on the forum’s website as well as on social media.

The findings of the survey will then be shared through the forum’s website and social media.
