MUSIC from The Beatles will be performed by Powick Community Choir at a concert this weekend.

The show will also have a ‘Last night of the Proms’ theme showcasing many popular classics.

A twelve piece professional chamber orchestra will accompany the choir for the performance at St Martin’s Church, London Road, Worcester on Saturday.

Earlier this year the choir came away with ‘The Outstanding Choir Award’ in the Upton Community Choir Competition.

This is the second award the choir has recently won and the choir has established an enviable reputation for its music making.

The choir’s musical director is well known local councillor, Tom Wells.

Cllr Wells said: “People often ask me to tell them about the choir but that’s not easy.

"A choir is usually categorised by the genre of the music it performs.

"But our audiences are treated to an eclectic mix of music, ranging from Mendelssohn to the Beatles. The important thing is that each is performed to a high standard.”

The concert will also feature a performance of Cllr Wells's own acclaimed composition for string orchestra ‘Soldiers of the Great War’, which commemorates the hundred anniversary of the end of that war.

It was originally commissioned for the 2017 Worcester Chamber Music Festival.

The show starts at 7.30. Tickets cost £12 on the night and include a glass of wine or soft drink and light finger buffet.
