A BROMSGROVE gym has been working with youngsters to offer a new kind of after school activity.

Catshill PE teacher Sarah Major contacted all the gyms in the Bromsgrove area to try to provide something different for pupils outside school hours, but without success.

Mark Lammas, Athletic Performance Training (APT) founder, liked the idea so decided to create the APT Community Youth Development Programme.

He said: "I thought it was a fantastic idea and jumped at the chance of providing a community program aimed at local school children to help them develop into athletes and show them how to build fitness away from the school environment.

"Both of my boys went to Catshill Middle and have gone on to become successful sportsmen so this was a perfect chance to help develop future sporting success."

Sessions are run at the facility straight after school, twice weekly, with Sarah taking the children on the school minibus.

APT is also running two extra slots per week available to local middle schools that wish to get involved in the programme.
