A FORMER Bromsgrove woman has been inspired to take on her toughest challenge yet in memory of her niece.
Joanne Lambe is taking part in the Man verses Mountain event in Wales, in September.
The 35-year-old is raising money for the Acorns Children's Hospice, a charity chosen as she wanted to thank them for their support after her brother's daughter passed away.
Georgia-May was born to Oldbury parents Michael and Sam last October, but was quickly diagnosed with the serious genetic condition Edwards Syndrome and died at just 15-days-old.
Joanne, who now lives in Leeds, has decided to take part in the gruelling challenge to support Acorns Birmingham hospice, that supported the family.
Joanne said: "The course is over 20 miles in total and includes a run up Snowdon of 13 miles, followed by a straight kilometre uphill run, an abseil off a bridge and a swim through a lake over a number of obstacles.
“I cannot begin to explain how amazing the support was (from Acorns) providing them with a flat in the hospice, cooking meals, support for their son Riley and continued support once Georgie-May had died. Nothing was too much trouble.
“I think it will be very much a mental challenge more than physical, but I will be thinking of Georgie-May and spurred on by why I’m doing it.”
