WATER from a cracked pipe burst through the pavement in Catshill, leaving a road flooded and homes without water.

Severn Trent received reports of residents without running water yesterday morning (June 27), with others describing the pavement in Epsom Road as 'forced up' by the leak.

Witnesses described water gushing down the road as far as the One Stop store on Woodrow Lane.

Severn Trent teams were on site, working to fix the problem for several hours, before water supplies were restored last night.

A spokesman said: "We unfortunately did have some customers with no supply yesterday afternoon [Tuesday], but we managed to get the water back on for them pretty quickly.

"We’re really sorry for the inconvenience we know this will have caused.

"The water escaping from the burst pipe has caused a bit of damage to the footpath, which we will put right today [Wednesday], but we’re happy to say that the road hasn’t been affected at all and is still fully open for traffic."

Updates to follow later today.
