A HIGH school student will shave his hair for Cure Leukaemia in tribute to the help they gave his mother.
Robert Ward, 17, an a level student at Pershore High School is having his hair cut by his mother on Thursday July 20 at the school to mark the treatment she was given for chronic myeloid leukaemia.
Robert said: "When I was 6 years old, my mum was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia.
She was fortunate to be given Glivec, a new ‘wonder’ drug for this type of leukaemia.
"She suffered side effects though, particularly extreme fatigue, so my three younger brothers and I became young carers.
"My mum was fortunate with her doctors, including Prof Charles Craddock and now, 11 years later, she is in ‘treatment free remission’ which means that although the leukaemia may return, she doesn’t have to take the drugs now. "
"I am fundraising for Cure Leukaemia, who fund a national network of specialist research nurses and trials into new treatments. Please sponsor me with whatever you can spare."
