AROUND 60 classic and vintage cars will depart from Evesham in a fuel consumption challenge.

The first car will depart from the Evesham Hotel and Spa at 10.15am on Sunday, August 20 as part of the Cotswold Economy Drive.

The challenge is to complete the 110 mile route using the least amount of fuel.

The crew of each car will estimate how much fuel will be used during the course and that is then judged against the actual amount at the end of the race.

Winners receive a gold medal with silver and bronze medals awarded to runners up.

Junior navigators will receive a special award.

Having started as an exploration through the Cotswolds, the 19th Cotswold Economy Drive has now extended over the years into neighbouring Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and now Buckinghamshire.

The route for 2017 heads east through the unspoiled lanes to the Claydon Estate in Buckinghamshire, home of Nicholas and Alexandra Verney.

Penalties are awarded for missing checkpoints, missing secret checks and lateness.
