COUNCIL chiefs say that a new transport model will "take at least a year" to help decrease Evesham's traffic woes.

Cllr Ken Pollock, cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure at Worcestershire County Council claims that although the Evesham Transport Model will be completed next month, it will then take time to make a difference.

The council spent £100,000 on a traffic survey in Evesham in January 2016, however, residents have continued to bemoan traffic issues.

Cllr Pollock, said: "The Evesham Transport Model is expected to complete in early November.

"Designing transport models is a complex process and it's normal for a model to take at least a year to develop and calibrate.

"The next step will be getting an independent consultant to validate the model. We will then begin examining the various options and scenarios to tackle congestion in Evesham, beginning with a technical assessment of all options to ensure options are realistically feasible.

"All options and scenarios which are found to be technically deliverable will be put forward to be tested in the model, which will then be used to develop a long term investment strategy for Evesham's transport infrastructure and services."

Resident Andrew Racey, got in touch with the Journal, claiming that it was "disgraceful" that the survey was yet to produce any results.

He said: "The fact that such a large amount of public money has been spent with as yet no signs of action is disgraceful. Meanwhile Evesham suffers horrendous traffic issues.

"It is very clear that the residents of Evesham will not see any tangible results in my view until 2019.

"There is no doubt that the traffic congestion continues to be very bad . No matter what time of day it is ,it's usually built back to the railway station.

"A huge cause are the pedestrian lights opposite Iceland.

"They are not synchronised with any other lights, so traffic from Swan lane turning left meets traffic from the High Street thus it all builds up."
