A DRUG grower was described as "almost too honest" by his solicitor after he admitted planning to trade cannabis.

John Smith, 42, of Caravan Site, Pinvin, Pershore admitted producing 15 plants of cannabis.

The court heard that Smith was planning to give the class b drug to his friends at the caravan site and to trade it at festivals.

Peter Love, prosecuting said: "The caravan was searched and 15 plants of cannabis were found, of approximately 825 grammes."

Mr Love also expressed doubts that the case could be tried at Worcester Magistrates Court, however, magistrates decided to impose the maximum length of sentence they could rather than to send it to the crown court.

Chris Hilton, defending said: "He pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and was very honest with the police, he was almost too honest.

"He could have claimed that he was going to smoke it all himself but he admitted that he was going to share it with his friends at the caravan site and to trade it for items of value at festivals, but he was not going to sell it.

"He has never been before the court for something like this.

"He met someone at a festival who sold drugs and was told that it is very easy to do.

"He cannot work at the moment due to arthritis pain but is keen to get back to work soon."

Smith was given six months in prison, suspended for 12 months and told to pay a victim surcharge of £45 and costs of £135.

He appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday October 12.
