AN Evesham couple are preparing to take on a battle against all the elements.

Jade West will be running the Cheltenham 9KM Devil Mud Run on Sunday September 16 alongside partner, William Green, in memory of Jade’s grandad, Michael Smith, who died at the beginning of this year.

Mr Smith battled for 12 years with cancer, five years with chronic kidney disease and several brain tumours over his last three years.

They are also running in memory of a close friend to Mr Green, Dot Wright, who died after a battle with terminal cancer.

They are both challenging themselves in order to raise funds for Cancer Research UK to give back to them for all the help, support and treatment which has been received.

In the space of just a month the couple have managed to raise £795 via their page for the charity, now hoping to raise over £1000.

Mr Green said: “We are proud to be raising money for such a good cause, which affects us all in some way, whether knowing someone who has cancer or someone who has sadly lost their battle.

"We are happy to just give back to the people who are behind the scenes helping to find a cure and help save lives.”

The 9km Devil Mud Run is an off-road course, with various inclines and declines as well as a combination of 31 man-made and natural obstacles.

Miss West said: “We are both really proud to be taking part and challenging ourselves in an event, running alongside others, some of whom are also raising money for fantastic causes. To run in memory of two amazing people, makes us immensely proud.”
