THE bank holiday weekend looks set to be a washout weather-wise.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in Worcestershire over the weekend.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Saturday and Sunday.

And Dave Throup, from the Environment Agency, has warned significant flooding is possible.

Mr Throup, said, “Some really severe thunderstorms likely this weekend.

“Where they do occur significant flooding is possible.”

Despite the rain, temperatures will be fairly mild around 20C (68F) with light winds.

Weatherman Frank Hill said the best day of the bank holiday is likely to be Saturday with heavy rain moving away during the afternoon, leading to a dry sunny spell.

Mr Hill added that Sunday and Monday have “got a bit of a problem.”

Both days will be fairly warm with periods of sun, however, there is a threat of rain and thunderstorms in the latter half of the day.

Mr Hill added: “The River Severn won’t be rising near its source at the moment.”

He doesn't expect to see the River Severn itself flooding but with yesterday's rain, local flooding is prone in the valleys of Worcestershire.

Drivers have been warned that flooding could result in difficult driving conditions, and could potentially lead to road closures.

The forecast is a world away from the good weather enjoyed during the early May bank holiday, which was the hottest early bank holiday on record.

Sun worshippers enjoyed a sunny weekend, sweltering in temperatures of 24C on the Monday.
