QUICK thinking stopped a severe fire in a static caravan in Redditch this morning (Tuesday, June 20) from being a lot worse, fire crews report.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from the town’s fire station were alerted to the blaze in Alcester Road, Portway, at about 5.43am.
After a fridge-freezer inside the caravan went up in flames, the occupants were able to prevent the fire from becoming much more severe by “self-evacuating” the appliance outside.

The fire crews then put out the fire which had spread inside the caravan.
Earlier last night, Redditch firefighters were alerted to another kitchen appliance fire as a cooker had caused a blaze at a property in Neville Close.
The crew were dispatched to the scene at about 7.45pm and were able to isolate the cooker’s gas supply before providing advice to the occupier.
