REDDITCH'S newly elected MP Rachel Maclean said she is "extremely disappointed" by a report detailing the extent of the problems facing the town's Alexandra Hospital.

Watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has today announced that the hospital will remain in special measures until further review.

The announcement comes as a new report is published again labelling the site and Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust, which runs it, "inadequate".

In the report the CQC says that rather than improving, the problems at the trust have been getting worse – something it calls "extremely concerning".

Michelle McKay, the new chief executive of Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust, says she is "determined" to turn things around.

The new MP said: “While I am encouraged that the trust has been acknowledged as a caring organisation, leadership has been identified as a continuing problem.

"Although I recognise a plan is in place to tackle the more urgent problems, people have a right to expect to see results – and quickly.

“I have pledged as part of my 12-point election plan to hold Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to account, and as part of that promise I shall be keeping a very close eye on the situation going forward.

She added: "I have already requested an urgent meeting with Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, and shall be meeting with Michelle McKay.”

The trust, which also runs the Worcestershire Royal and Kidderminster Hospital, was first placed into special measures in December 2015.

The new report puts the meat on the bones of a previous section 29A warning notice issued by the CQC in February when the trust was told it must get its house in order or face further action.
