REDDITCH'S MP recently visited Redditch United to see behind-the-scenes at the ground as the new season kicked off.

Rachel Maclean, along with Redditch councillor Juliet Brunner, met club chairman Chris Swan who said he has big plans for the future.

He is seeking planning permission for expansion of stands and other facilities to enable enhanced hospitality, community and commercial functions, including classrooms for academy students.

The MP said: “I saw the pitch, grounds and changing rooms, and it was good to see the club working in partnership with fire and police authorities as well as the council, with hubs in various parts of the town, so their community involvement is impressive.”

Project work is taking place for young people aged 12 to 16, and centres around playing football and other sports, and includes education, support and other services to young people at the heart of their communities.

“Expansion will provide more opportunities for local businesses to help in their local communities - something I know many businesses are interested in doing and which I welcome,” added Mrs Maclean.

Key companies who have supported this so far are GKN and Lear Corporation.

The club, which has been going from strength to strength in recent years, is aiming to be in the second Conference league within five years.

“I’m very much looking forward to visiting and supporting this season – wishing all the players and staff good luck for the year ahead,” said the MP.
