RESIDENTS are being invited to see a striking, and somewhat unusual, display of lace and meet the people behind the artistic creations.

Members of The Westhope group, diverse group of textile artists who primarily work with lace techniques, will be at Forge Mill Needle Museum on October 21 and 22, as part of an inspiring exhibition.

The members come from across the UK (meeting once a year at Westhope College) to share their knowledge and expertise.

Although their work is grounded in centuries old techniques, their aim is to challenge the traditional views of lace.

Members have been working on the exhibition, Inspired By Machinery, for more than two years and have been inspired by everything from lighthouses to sewing machines, from boat lifts to turbines.

A spokesman from the museum said: "It is an exhibition that will definitely challenge people’s perception of lace and shows what traditional lace techniques can achieve."

It runs from now until Sun, October 22.
