MARK Willis has been elected as Mayor of Tenbury for the fourth successive year.

The former policeman was nominated and elected unopposed by other town councillors.

But he told the annual meeting of the town council that this would be his final year as Mayor.

“I am proud to be elected again but this will be the last time,” said Mark Willis.

His term of office has seen major changes in Tenbury and has included the on-going debate about the new Tesco store that finally ended when Cllr Willis opened the new supermarket in April.

As mayor he has also been involved in working to resolve the problems around the improvements to the town centre that had to be undertaken in two phases because part of the work is being paid for by Tesco.

However, this has now been completed.

But Mark Willis has been less successful in trying to get a flood defence scheme for Tenbury. He has warned that it is only a matter of time before there is a major flood in the town and took the initiative in calling a public meeting on the issue at the Regal.

However, there has been no real progress in agreeing progress on a flood defence scheme.

Another issue that continues to be a problem and one he will hope to improve in his final year in office is the issue of anti-social dog owners allowing their pets to foul public areas in the town including playing fields.

Mark Willis became mayor in 2014, taking over from George Price.
