THE battle against fly-tipping in Tenbury and the Teme Valley could be making an appearance on the small screen.

Dan Bayliss and Jude Allen, Street Scene Officers with Malvern Hills District Council, were called to a layby between Great Witley and Stanford Bridge to investigate a report of two sofas that had been dumped.

However, when they arrived they were greeted by a television crew and presenter Dom Littlewood. By chance he was also in the area filming with police for his show Dom on the Spot, which looks at issues around Fixed Penalty Notices.

The pair then gave an impromptu interview about their work tackling fly-tipping for the programme, which is due to air on BBC One later in the year.

On average, 22 incidents of fly-tipping a month are reported and the council investigates all major reports and takes action where evidence can be found.

Recent successes saw a £300 Fixed Penalty Notice issued to a man for breaching his duty of care after plasterboard, a bath and a sink were found at Knightwick.

Another man was given an FPN for the same amount for dumping a mattress, chairs and a sofa at Ankerdine Hall.

“Large household items make up the bulk of the fly-tips we deal with,” said Jude Allen.

“There’s just no excuse for it, it’s selfish, lazy and costs taxpayers money. Hopefully, doing this interview will help raise awareness of the kind of thing we have to deal with.”
