A HEAVY downpour of rain awoke residents across the city, although luckily there were no incidents of flooding.

West Mercia Police urged drivers to take care yesterday morning due to the torrential rain in Worcester.

Dave Throup, the Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, warned that heavy rain and thunder would affect the area on Tuesday night.

Louise Griffiths wrote on the Worcester News Facebook page: "[I've] been up all night with toothache, [the] rain was hammering the windows."

Katie Humphries, from Worcester, added: "I drove through it all night. We are on the way to France. I drove the night portion.

"[We] started driving at 2am and by 8.30 this morning it was still raining."

Danielle Shone said: "I didn't hear it. Just noticed that my bunnies were soaked this morning. They love to sit in the rain even though they have plenty of shelter."

A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: "There have been no reports of flooding or related issues as a result of yesterday's heavy rain.

"We would like to thank motorists for their responsible driving during bad weather conditions, during which extra care must be taken."
