THE city's night shelter for rough sleepers has moved into a larger premises and will be open this weekend.

The charity Caring for Communities and People (CCP) has accepted the Salvation Army's offer to use its building in The Trinity, Worcester, to provide shelter for homeless people.

CCP, which is contracted by the council, previously held its night shelter in Maggs Day Centre, however it decided to relocate due to an increase in demand.

Ross Webber, project manager for CCP, said the Salvation Army property should be able to accommodate over 25 people, whereas Maggs Day Centre could only house 18 rough sleepers.

The new shelter will be open on Saturday and Sunday night, with forecasters predicting snow and freezing temperatures across the county this weekend.
