THE city’s Renault dealership is closing down, with staff set to lose their jobs.

Employees at Hylton Renault Worcester reportedly found out they were being made redundant in a letter they received around two weeks ago.

City councillor Richard Udall has raised concerns about the closure of the dealership on the Everoak Industrial Estate, in Bromyard Road.

Cllr Udall, who represents St John’s, said: “I’m more than a little concerned, not only for dedicated staff who have worked there for a number of years but also for their customers.

"They had an understanding that they could have repair work and servicing done locally.

"They need to give an explanation to their loyal customers who spent years trading with them as to what's happening.

"I've been a loyal customer of them myself, I've never bought any other car other than a Renault and it's leaving me feeling angry and fed up.

“They need to give assurance to the employees who have given years of service only to be kicked in the teeth.

"The ones [staff] who have spoken to me are angry and upset about the lack of notice and information about what's happening. It must be a worrying and frightful experience."

Cllr Udall believes that the Worcester dealership will close on Tuesday, March 27.

The Nissan dealership next to the Renault site has already shut.

Hylton Renault Worcester is owned by the Hylton Group, which also has dealerships in St Peter's and Cheltenham.

Hylton Group and Renault were unavailable for comment.
