A FOOD artist who has created tasty artwork for some of the biggest companies in the world is set to showcase her skills at this year’s Malvern Food Festival.

Prudence Staite will be conjuring up chocolate sculptures, including one of composer Edward Elgar, in front of the thousands of people expected to pack into the town centre for the event on Bank Holiday Monday.

Prudence has previously produced food-related sculptures for major organisations including the BBC, Disney and Cadbury, and her work has included chocolate crocodiles, a giant chocolate maze and a sculpture of Queen Victoria.

Also new to this year’s festival is John Swift from Ludlow-based Swift’s Bakery who will be talking about his experience on BBC 2 programme Victorian Bakers. The show took four modern bakers and had them bake their way through the Victorian era to experience what their profession was like.

This year’s festival promises to be the biggest yet, with more than 60 stalls selling everything from handmade fudge and curries to local beer and cured meats.

Lizzy Hughes, who runs Our Lizzy Cooking in Malvern, will be demonstrating vegan recipes from her new street food course and helping young chefs to produce tasty meals from locally-grown produce.

Live music will be provided by versatile jazz ensemble Second Line and Malvern Rock Choir.

The festival, organised by Malvern Hills District Council, runs from 10am to 5.30pm and takes place within the grounds of Great Malvern Priory and around the town centre.

Council leader David Chambers said: “The Great Malvern Food Festival has grown in popularity year on year and has become a major event on the town’s social calendar.

"We look forward to welcoming people from far and wide to sample the delicious delights on offer and I’m curious to see what Sir Edward Elgar looks like in chocolate.”
