THE meeting began with one minute’s silence for members Janice Jackson and Jean Campbell, who have sadly passed away.

The NFWI’s resolution on organ donation was agreed unanimously.

Members donated to projects being run by Associated Countrywomen Worldwide.

There was the Wythall Walk on May 28.

Karen O’Connor, formerly an oboist with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle and now a performance psychologist, began her talk by telling members she had already found us the friendliest WI that she had ever spoken to.

She went on to give an enthralling account of her career, full of humorous anecdotes.

We were sorry when the time came for her to conclude her talk.

The competition for something pink was won by Georgia Jacobs, with a piece of sharp pink granite, a type of stone which has been used in most UK cities, for example in St Paul’s Cathedral, St Pancras Station and the Prince Albert Memorial in London and in St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh.
