ON August 16, the branch held its 20th annual produce show. The event was formally opened to the public at 3pm by Wendy Ahmed.

Wendy is a former member of Fairfield WI. It was very special that she could also present the prizes on the 20th anniversary of the show, which was initiated all those years ago by Wendy’s hard work and enthusiasm.

The classes were many and varied, from flowers to fruit and photography, wide ranging crafts and cookery items.

Entries were welcomed from both WI members and villagers, with special classes for children of all ages.

The event was well supported and the judges agreed that exhibits in many classes were of a high standard.

Prizes awarded to the winners of each section were: Flower arranging Sheila Morris; Flowers; Plants; Fruit + Veg Sheila Morris; Eggs Carol Hine; Crafts Sheila Morris; Home-craft Maggie Mason; Photography Carol Hine; Children’s trophy William Sagar.

Congratulations to all but especially to Sheila Morris, who gained the highest number of points in the show.

Following the presentations, refreshments were served.

The tombola and side-stalls including “Guess the Weight of the Cake” made and decorated by Ellen plus the raffle – all did a brisk trade.

To conclude the afternoon, show produce was professionally auctioned off to eager buyers by Richard Mason.

Thanks to Richard for his regular role as auctioneer at this event, to each member of the show sub-committee and to everyone who helped on the day, but most especially to Anne Griffin, the show secretary, whose hard work inspires the rest of the team to put on what has become such a successful annual event.
