THE first coffee morning back after the summer break was well attended, with a couple of new members, more would be welcome!

The chairman gave us a resume of what was going on in the Town and brought us up to date on the saga of The Alex, no joy there then.

It was agreed the Christmas lunch would be held at the Archers Restaurant (The College) on December 4. Menu will be available at the next coffee morning when bookings will be taken. A £5 deposit is requested, numbers will be limited to 40. First come first served.

We had a most informative talk by Caroline from the fire and rescue service. She outlined the important things to do to minimise the risks.

1. Check your smoke alarms weekly to ensure they are working.

2. Unplug all electric appliances before going to bed.

3. Close all doors – a closed door can keep the fire at bay for approximately 20 minutes.

4. On hearing the alarm go off get everyone out of the building, closing the doors behind you.

5. Ring the Fire Service. Do not go back into the building until the fire service tell you it is safe to do so.

You can request a home visit from the fire service to give you advice on fire precautions and to have your alarms checked and replaced if necessary. Call 0800 032 1155
