KRIS welcomed everyone to the April meeting, including one visitor, Barbara. Apologies were received from four members. There were no birthdays this month. Jackie and Jules were thanked for providing tea, coffee and cakes.

The speaker for the evening was then introduced.

Anthony Collis came to talk about Swinging Ladies (pub signs). He began by telling us that he was going to talk about pub signs country wide and he had grouped them in to categories, beginning with queens, heroines, mistresses, literary connections, stage and screen and potpourri.

With each picture he showed, he told us some of its history and also encouraged audience participation, which added to the interest. There are thousands of these pub signs with many now being lost as pubs close and, as yet, there doesn’t appear to be any museum - only private collectors. Sue B thanked Anthony on behalf of the ladies for an entertaining and interesting talk.

Continuing the meeting, boards were being circulated with the request that anyone interested for any of the activities or trips mentioned, please make sure your names are added to the relevant list.

Tickets were given out for the Michael Portillo lunch and lifts were arranged. We were brought up to date with the craft, culture and book clubs’ next meetings. We have nothing arranged for July 2 for Culture Club. If anyone has any ideas and is willing to book, it would be appreciated.

The Chateaux has been booked for September 3.

Our centenary celebration will be held on July 18. It will be a BBQ and afternoon tea.

More details nearer the day.

The bluebell walk was mentioned again, along with the walk around Droitwich.

Tea, coffee and cake was served and also, as an added interest to our evening, instead of a sales table we had a tombola, which was organised by Norma and Rosie. Everyone brought a bottle, tickets were sold and most people went home with a bottle of some description.

The meeting closed at about 9.30pm.
