WE have had a hectic start to April. On the first day, we hosted the spring group meeting, when more than 50 guests came to the village hall and the tables were attractively laid out, each with posy of daffodils. Nicky Moran entertained us by singing a nostalgic variety of songs and ballads, including two moving ones made famous by Barbara Streisand and Doris Day’s Que Sera, Sera, with which we sang along.

Nicky has a wonderful voice and sang more songs from her favourite musicals and encouraged us to join in with I’ll Do Anything and Do-Re-Mi, which we did with gusto – she even complimented us on our singing.

After the entertainment, we enjoyed the plentiful buffet and the evening was judged a great success.

On April 6, we held our 78th birthday party attended by 30 members. Colin Bell entertained us playing some well known music on his Yamaha digital piano. He included pieces by Mancini, Gershwin, and Shearing and also our own requests. These included Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, As Time Goes By and many other favourites. He had many fascinating stories about his time playing the piano in Hollywood and at The Ritz.

Jessica thanked him for a most enjoyable afternoon and we went on to enjoy our delicious party food while the raffle was drawn. The competition, a musical item, was judged by Colin and won by Jill, with Hazel second and Jessica third. We meet on the first Monday in the month at 2pm in Finstall Village Hall, and new members are warmly welcomed.
