THE Primrose Choir’s three public concerts each year are always popular and well-attended with the extended raffles swelling the takings.

This year’s Summertime Concert took place recently in Redditch Town Hall and was very well-received. In recent years the Primrose Choir has been joined by choirs from local schools. Regular guests are the children from Studley St Mary’s Roman Catholic School and Astwood Bank First School, both of whom are remarkably talented as well as very appealing. The children from St Mary’s again worked their magic at the Summertime Concert and their soloist, Iona Rogers, was brilliant. The concert also included an impressive performance by It’s A Sign, a group of young people with special needs who used sign language to illustrate their music. This was a resounding success with the audience.

Forthcoming concerts are the Primrose Proms on October 16 at Routh Hall, Bromsgrove School, and the Christmas Concert on December 11.

Both these events will be announced in the press and tickets will be available on 01527 67383 and 01527-456158.

The choir also sings for private events and are looking forward to singing at weddings in August and October.

Whatever the event, whether it’s a family party, club dinner or any other social occasion, the choir has the appropriate repertoire to entertain. Booking enquiries should be made to 01527-546158. Local funeral directors will also arrange for the choir to attend funerals to support the congregation.

The Primrose Choir is now into its sixteenth year. Some longstanding members have had to retire but there is no shortage of singers wanting to take their place. In fact, the average age is now much younger than it was. The basses and tenors go from strength to strength and the ladies – always reliable – maintain their standards.

The primary purpose of the choir, apart from giving pleasure to their audiences and themselves, is to raise money for the Primrose Hospice.

This they have continued to do magnificently, regularly giving substantial cheques to the hospice. The total donated to the hospice in the year 2014- 15 was £8000.
