THREE visitors were welcomed to the September meeting and apologies were received from three members.

Kris introduced our speaker for the evening, Rae Fowler, who gave a talk on the Funny Side of Life. Rae soon had everyone laughing with her stories and anecdotes. She had many topics to talk about, stories taken from parish magazines, funny signs, Christmas and a few home truths. Jenny thanked Rae on behalf of the ladies.

Returning to the business Kris thanked Pearl (in her absence) for buying all the members of the WI a centenary mug. This was a lovely gesture and much appreciated by everyone. Pearl was sent some flowers and a card.

To celebrate the actual centenary day we had the barbecue in July then tonight we raised a glass to the next 100 years and sang Jerusalem.

Pearl hosted a MacMillan coffee afternoon on September 23 at Burcot Village Hall.

The minutes were available from our July meeting for members to read.

Sylvia and Rosie were thanked for making the tea and coffee.

There were two birthdays before our next meeting, Jane and Amy. They were both given cards.

Pam M has been thinking about the history of the WI and has had an idea to record events from individual members about memories from their past.

This will combine two projects as Worcestershire Federation has asked each WI to provide some information about the history of individual groups. Sue B and Sue K volunteered to help Pam.

A big thank you from all the members was expressed to Rosie, Iain and Paul for the loan of their field and the marquee on the day of the barbecue.

And in appreciation each was given a small gift.

Carolynne sent us a thank you card for the flowers and card sent to her after her fall, and this was read out.

Sue K has agreed to become vice president of our WI and stand in for Kris when necessary.

Boards were circulated for various get-togethers and outings and dates for book, craft, and culture clubs were announced.

Rubery are hosting the group meeting on October 8, 7pm at the Beacon Centre.

Sue B gave a brief report from the secretary which included details of the Denman Bursary and the Christmas Carol Service to be held at St Phillips and St James Hallow on December 4. Pat won the raffle the meeting closed 9.30pm
