THEFebruarymeetingofClent Gardening Club was well attended with a record number of members and one or two newcomers.

The speaker was Ingrid Millington, of Hillview Hardy Plants at Worfield, Bridgnorth, who gave a talk on early spring perennials showing us slides of manyold favouritesandanumber of lesser known ones.

There was much interest shown in learning about fresh ideas and caused much discussion among members.

There was also our monthly flower and vegetable competition which is popular with points being awarded for the first three winners.

The winning vegetable for the month of February was the parsnip taking first and second points. The first was awarded to Albert Walker and the second to Geoff Carr – very well done.

Spring being nearly upon us we have revived our plants for sale table on which members donate their excess plants to the club. Geoff Carr is in charge of this and cheerfully sold most of the donations.

Bookings were taken for the various club outings for the year, including a trip to RHS Wisley in July.

Our next meeting takes place on Friday, March 23, at Clent Parish Hall. This is one of our starting from scratch meetings aimed at ordinary gardeners who do not claim to be experts, but are willing to have a go.

The subject of this meeting is entitled turnips to tomatoes given by Roger Umpelby.

If you are interested in vegetable gardening or indeed in any kind of gardening why not give us a go?

There will be the usual raffle followed by refreshments.

We have a full and varied programme for 2012. You will be made welcome.

Anyone interested in either joining the club, or just visiting, can contact chairman Pat Orme on 01384 39445 or to find out more visit our website on clentgardeningclub.co.uk.
