IN these days of NHS knocking, we only ever seem to hear the negatives about our local hospitals.

I feel praise should be given as well and I am certainly full of praise for the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

On October 28 I was taken ill and my local GP sent me to the Alex for an ECG and blood tests. The outcome was a major kidney problem, not at all what was expected.

On my arrival at A&E I was immediately given treatment.

No waiting, it was instant.

After this blood test I was taken and admitted to the Medical Assessment Unit awaiting results. They were very prompt in arriving, though not what I wanted to hear, treatment began instantly by Mr Vanathenan, and his staff were superb – as were the nurses, cleaners and everyone to do with the ward including the food, medicines etc.

With the facility in the Alexandra limited Mr Vanathenan got in touch with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

It was decided I would be moved to the QE when a bed became available.

I am now at home after the unbelievable treatment at the Renal Ward 303 where I received specialised treatment from the most wonderful team of people from cleaners, nurses, specialists and dialysis team, and I would like to thank everyone of them.

They are all a credit to their professions, thank you the Alexandra Hospital and the QE.
