THE current Western “bypass”

is an unnamed detour, of which locals are well aware. It comprises leaving the Worcester Road (B4091) at Rock Hill and turning left onto Fox Lane, then continuing along Whitford Road. The “route” then crosses the Kidderminster Road (A448) at a staggered and uncontrolled cross roads into Perryfields Road and continues to the uncontrolled T-junction at Stourbridge Road, where users rejoin the (B4091) the other side of Bromsgrove town centre.

The building of 490 homes in Whitford Road accessed solely from it will add potentially close on 1,000 dedicated car users to this road.

The assumption being a worst case scenario, where all the new households own two cars. If Worcestershire County Council does not see the need for a Western Link Road, as can be assumed from your article (The Advertiser, August 6), then why does Bromsgrove Council seek to approve a housing scheme which can only add traffic misery to current Bromsgrove road users? This also includes the new residents when they move into these proposed new homes.

Safety issues should be considered as it would appear none of the major junctions on this route were designed to cope with large volumes of traffic. In the planning proposal to the committee there is a sum of “£784,489.60 to mitigate for the additional demands on the wider transport network generated by the development”. The list following this expenditure does not cover improvements to any of the roads I have mentioned above.

The Western Bypass is therefore still a dream and further is not seen as remotely significant to Bromsgrove Council.
