I WAS saddened to read the headline in the Bromsgrove Advertiser: “Celebrations as plans for new homes are rejected”.

It caused me to reflect on the narrow-mindedness of people who seem not to care about the consequences of their selfishness on the greater community.

House prices in England have soared in the past few decades, driven upwards by lack of supply.

Only by building more houses will we prevent the next generations from becoming a nation of renters.

Society is being transformed back to the inequalities of the pre-war years by the very people who benefited from the social mobility of the post-war decades.
