WHY is Bromsgrove Council so ashamed of AE Housman?

Before the High Street refurbishment, his statue was merely labelled “AE Housman, poet and scholar”. But now even that has been removed and he is bereft of any identity.

Are the borough fathers ashamed because he failed his finals at Oxford – even though he went on to become professor of Latin, first at London and then at Cambridge, or is it because (whisper it gently) he was homosexual, even though nowadays people are more enlightened.

Or do they just not care? Please give him back his identification – and this time, why not elaborate a bit. After all, he was one of Bromsgrove’s more illustrious sons.
