Cheaper abroad

I HAVE just returned from visiting a friend in Tenerife and was amazed at the difference in charges over there.

My friend has a two bedroom flat in a lovely village and she pays £112 per annum council tax.

If you own a car with low emissions you don't pay any car tax at all, but because my friend's car is an old one she pays £44 per annum.

Petrol in Tenerife is equivalent to 50p and 60p per litre, you can buy a pint of beer for 70p a pint. They are building new motorways and roads, new hospitals and schools, also new shopping complexes. All along the coast they have pedestrianised, they have got rid of all the steps and put in ramps for the disabled.

You never see parking meters, parking is free on all the roads, which are marked out for that purpose. There are plenty of parking spaces you only have to pay for parking is in the underground car parks. And the tax they pay is put back into the roads, schools and hospitals - that is how it should be in this country.
