I am most grateful to The Advertiser for bringing my attention to the town’s Holocaust Memorial Day.
I am also grateful to the councillor who was wise enough to remind us of how important it is that we remember the dreadful events of that time and its awful consequences thereafter.
I lived through those dreadful events and remember the horror of it all.
I was shocked to read from the BBC website on Christmas day a blog written by a journalist relating to the detention and treatment of children at the government immigrant detention centres in England.
It would appear that our government has a short memory (or has never learned) the consequence of man’s inhumanity to man.
I recognise that there is very little an individual can do to put an end to this misery inflicted on young children, but I’m convinced that the more people that learn of it, the more likely there will be an end to it.
