Pedal power

THROUGH your newspaper’s letters page I would like to thank motorists and other road users in the Blackwell area on Saturday for their patience and consideration while our village charity cycling challenge was in progress from 9am to 6pm.

We had 125 cyclists of all ages and abilities completing laps of a 2.5 mile circuit through Blackwell and round the local lanes raising money for CLIC Sargent Cancer Care, the Midlands Air Ambulance and Edward’s Trust.

We have been running the Blackwell Challenge since 2001 and since then we haveraised £97,000 for these three charities.

We are hoping that this year’s event will take our total way past the £100,000markwhenall this year’ssponsorship money is collected in.

Between them our riders completed a total of just over 2,700 miles – a remarkable community achievement.

This was the first time we have used our local lanes as our route and we are very grateful to everybody for heeding our numerous temporary warning signs and our marshals and driving slowly and carefully past our riders.

Many thanks to all concerned.

Ivan Beavis, Blackwell Challenge
