Age is no barrier

TWO golfers on contrasting sides of the age barrier are leading the way at Ombersley GC.
Jake Kelly, 13, and senior player Peter Powell, 81, have both enjoyed excellent years.
Kelly, pictured bottom right, has signed up as captain of Worcestershire’s under-14s team. He has also reduced his handicap to five and is now better than proud dad Simon who plays off six.
Contrast that with the achievements of Powell, pictured top right, a senior member at Ombersley for many years.
He scored a fantastic gross 76 (four over par) in the recent Mike Reynolds Trophy.
General manager and head professional Graham Glenister said: “I am extremely proud of both Jake and Peter.
“Ombersley is a totally inclusive club and Jake has thrived by being able to compete against the men as well as with them in matches against other clubs.
“Not only is Jake a great player, he’s a great lad too.
“He follows the good traditions and etiquette associated with the sport and is a fine ambassador for the club.
“Equally, Peter has been with us for many years and was not looking for a lot of fuss about his ability.
“As I get older myself, I’m acutely aware of my own limitations.
“Peter’s achievement is all the more extraordinary when you take his 81 years into account.”
