FAIRFIELD Villa recorded one of their finest ever results as they hammered a strong Phoenix United side 5-1 in the Midland Combination Division One on Saturday.
Two goals each for Pete Jenvey and Steve Frost and another for Nick Briggs ensured Villa bounced back from their mid-week 2-1 loss to Aston.
That means Fairfield have picked up six points from their first nine and are currently third in the table.
Joint boss Paul Oakes said: “It was a fantastic result, Phoenix are a really good side.
“They beat us well last season and went on a very good run as well.
“But I cannot praise the players highly enough, it was a great team performance.
“We finished off where we left off against Aston. We played so well, I am scratching my head how we lost to them.”
But Villa will be missing five players for Saturday’s clash at Hampton.
James Aston is unavailable because of work, Steve McGlenn misses out because of family commitments, while Pete Jenvey, James Hatfield and Nathan Davis are also absent.
Villa then take on Worcestershire rivals Feckenham on Monday (both matches 3pm ko).
Oakes was also quick to explain that Paul Edwards and Andy Burgess are welcome at the club.
The duo moved on last week but were not part of a divisive group of players which were cleared out by Oakes and managerial partner Lee Shaw.
