DROITWICH Spa earned their first win in four matches as they overcame Perrywood United 2-0 at home, to progress into the next round of the Worcestershire Junior Cup.

Michael Seeley’s 65th minute strike and an 88th minute effort by Matthew Purser also ended a run of three straight defeats for Spa.

Droitwich will face a tough test in the semi-finals as they could face Alvechurch’s reserves after they defeated Inkberrow 7-1, Feckenham after they had seen off Badsey Rangers 2-0 or Wyre Forest, who beat derby rivals Areley Kings 7-2.

The semi-finals have been scheduled for Saturday, January 25.

They return to league action this weekend with a bottom of the table clash at Coton Green (2pm ko).

Spa are just one place ahead of their opponents at the foot of the table but boast an eight point lead.

Meawhile, mid-table Fairfield Villa were edged out 1-0 at Cadbury Athletic on Saturday, with Anthony Clarke on target for the Birmingham-based side.

Joint manager Paul Oakes said: “The performance was actually pretty good so there are some positives to take from the game. Our season has been disrupted by a few issues but we seem to have resolved many of those and we’re looking forward to finding some consistency.”

But Villa will be hoping to maintain their solid home form against Shirley Town in the Midland Combination Premier on Saturday (2pm ko).

Shirley will go into the game in good heart after seeing off Chelmsley Town 3-0 at the weekend.

At the Recreation Ground, they have won three of their five matches in the league, drawing once, but have scored just nine goals in those matches.
