Young Boars progress in North Midlands Cup after beating Church Stretton

BROMSGROVE under-17s progressed into the next round of the North Midlands Cup with a 16-10 win over Church Stretton on Sunday.
The young Boars had the best of the game early on and opened the scoring when scrum half Joe Wilson converted a penalty.
Harry Onions grounded the ball after good work by Todd Williams as Bromsgrove edged 8-0 ahead.
Prop Joe Callaghan produced a try-stopping tackle to deny Stretton’s winger scoring.
But the away side bagged a converted try to move within a point of the hosts and ensure a hard fought match.
The alert Williams then charged down a defensive kick to bag Bromsgrove’s second try.
Still Stretton remained in the game and as Bromsgrove’s forwards tired it began to look like Stretton might still steal the victory.
The introduction of Toby Figgett at hooker injected a new lease of life into the home team and made ground in mauls.
With the game once more being played in the Stretton half pressure forced a last minute penalty which Joe Wilson kicked to seal the Boars’ win.
The team were watched by Ben Thomas, who is from the team’s new shirt-sponsors Thomas Brothers The Funeral Directors.
