Crowd-pleaser: Michael Pardoe

DROITWICH boxer Michael Pardoe has no intentions of throwing in the towel as he prepares for his 150th fight.

Pardoe, nicknamed ‘Buller,’ will take on Telford’s Ammir Fiaz at Stourport Civic Centre on Friday night when he will look to add to his number of wins.

Some 19 years have elapsed since he first donned a pair of boxing gloves as an eight-year-old – winning his first bout in Leicester three years later – a victory that earned him the ‘boxer of the night’ award.

Since then, the father-of-two has fought the likes of former two-time world champion Amir Khan and Commonwealth light middleweight champion Jamie Cox – to showcase a talent that has not only brought him other titles but plenty of plaudits for his voracious boxing style, too.

The 27-year-old claimed the English Schoolboys’ Championship crown as a 15-year-old and he landed the prestigious Midland Counties Senior Boxing title two years ago.

He said: “Being the first Droitwich boxer to win a Midlands senior title has been my biggest achievement and is something that I’m very proud of, as well as the fact that I’ve never been dropped or stopped in any of my 149 fights.”

Chris Andrews, Droitwich Amateur Boxing Academy secretary, has watched the majority of Pardoe’s bouts – including his very first one – and said reaching the landmark contest typified the fighter’s appetite for the sport.

He said: “He is a real terrier of a fighter and a genuine crowd-pleaser.”

Boxing fans are invited to watch Pardoe and other DABC fighters in Stourport on Friday, (8pm start). Tickets will be available on the door priced £12 for adults and £5 for children.
