BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Adrian Mander believes his side are well-equipped to cope with a testing run of away games in the Midland Combination Premier.

The Rouslers were set to kick-off their travels on Saturday at Stafford Town (3pm kick off), followed by trips to Pershore on March 8 and Alvis Sporting a week later.

Mander’s troops are very strong away from the Victoria Ground with just three losses all season.

Sporting are third in the table but in a good position to overtake second-placed Nuneaton Griff with a game in hand, superior goal difference and trailing by just three points.

Mander said: “At the start of the season our away form was better than our home record.

“But to be honest, our form in general is very good.

“I am just very happy with the way the team is playing, we’re going scoring lots of goals and not conceding many.

“Stafford are a good side and while I think we will go there and win, if we’re not at our best then we will lose.

“That’s the thing about the league we are in. The bottom sides can beat the teams at the top if they have an off day.”

Sporting made it just one loss in the last ten matches in all competitions with a 2-1 win over Athertsone on Saturday.

They are unbeaten in the last seven league games with five wins and two draws, Chris ‘Billy’ Russell opened the scoring for Sporting and while the Adders levelled, in-form hitman Mark Bellingham made it 2-1 with his 20th of the campaign.

The three points makes it very difficult for Atherstone to overtake Sporting. The Warwickshire club have five games in hand but trail Bromsgrove by 15 points.

Mander was also delighted to see hitman Russell get off the mark.

Together with Sean Williams, he joined Bromsgrove from Wolverhampton Casuals.

He had previously played for Mander at Cradley Town and bagged 40 goals for Tividale when they won promotion to the Midland Alliance.

He said: “It was great to see Chris score so early on in his time here.

“That will give him a big confidence boost and I am sure he will score a lot of goals.

“When you’ve got two good strikers such as Mark Bellingham and Chris Russell you’ve always got a chance.”

Bromsgrove Sporting’s Les James Cup clash at home to Alvis Sporting has been rearranged for next Tuesday (7.45pm kick offo). Adrian Mander is also still pursuing another new addition to further bolster his squad.
