DROITWICH Men were unable to complete a league double over second-placed Newton in the West Midlands Division Two after losing 2-0.

The game started frantically with both sides creating chances but it was Newtown who struck after 10 minutes from a penalty corner.

The hosts doubled their advantage eight minutes later after a shot deflected off a Droitwich stick, which was followed by a third a minute later from a well-worked corner routine.

Droitwich composed themselves and began to move the ball through midfield with Mike Langston and Matthew Darbyshire creating chances for the forwards.

Craig Timmis pulled a goal back and then had another chance smothered by Newtown’s keeper.

After the break, Newtown tired and sat back, the game became condensed in the middle.

Spa used the pace to create chances as Darbyshire crossed the ball from wide on the right and Tommy Ross scuffed his effort wide of the left hand post.

Droitwich’s pressure continued with several set pieces but could not get the roll of the ball with in the circle and second half ended goaless.

Spa end the current campaign with a match against Pershore (3pm start).

The seconds went goal crazy as they saw off Evesham 11-2.

Spa opened the scoring early with two quick goals in succession from Marcus Clayton. Further goals in the first half from Alex Brewer, Nick Bates, Barry Williams and Lee Wakelam handed them a six goal half-time lead.

In the second half, Wakelam added to his tally, before Evesham got on the score sheet.

Clayton then scored to seal his hat-trick, shortly followed by a further goal from Adam James.

Evesham then gained a second consolation effort before Alex Brewer scored a stunning reverse-stick goal from an acute angle.

Wakelam completed his treble to take his goal tally to 11 for the season. Victory ensures Spa are guaranteed third place in the league, narrowly missing out on promotion despite being the division top scorers with 71 goals.

They end the season at Pershore.

Meanwhile, the Ladies second entertained Harborne in Worcestershire Division One and lost 3-0 to the leaders. The Birmingham side bagged all three of their goals in the first half but Spa rallied after the break.

They will entertain Kings Heath away on Saturday.
