BROMSGROVE have added some much-needed pace to their bowling attack as they head into the Birmingham and District League Division One in good spirits.

Right-arm medium-fast seam bowler Graeme Whiles, who has played for Yorkshire seconds and Under-17s, and Jason Elliott, who has previously played for Nottinghamshire League side West Indian Cavaliers, have both bolstered the team’s options with the ball.

The duo have both had trials at Worcestershire and can be called up by the County side if needed.

Meanwhile, George Rhodes has joined Barnards Green, while Mikey Wyres has moved to Dorridge.

Captain Mark Evenson said: “For several years, we lacked the pace to take wickets and relied on spinners, so it’s good to see Jason and Graeme on board.

“They are both very quick, so hopefully they can give us something we’ve been missing.

“There’s no hard feelings about George and Mikey, we wish them the best of luck and we will see them later in the season.”

Bromsgrove start the season at home Moseley on Saturday (noon start), with the first five matches and final six of the season win or lose.

The Boars boasted a good record in the one-day-international-style format last season, but struggled in the traditional win, lose or draw system used in the middle of the 2013 campaign.

“Hopefully, we can be a bit stronger in the traditional system than we were last year,” added Evenson.

“We’re certainly very positive for the season. We’ve got players who can score more than 500 runs in a season and will now have more threat in our bowling, so we think we can finish in the top four.”

Bromsgrove have warmed up for the season with wins over Attock and Halesowen.
