DROITIWCH Spa Ladies completed a dream season as a 1-0 win over title rivals Evesham secured the Worcestershire Women’s County League title.

The team completed an impressive season by earning promotion to the West Midlands League.

Having beaten third placed Hereford on Friday evening, Spa needed a win in their championship show down to secure the top spot.

With Evesham also looking for a win which would seal the title, this winner take all clash was a tense affair and from the outset the two well-matched teams balanced each other out.

At half time the teams remained deadlocked and the game goalless.

But the deadlock was broken three minutes after the break when top-scorer April Polden raced onto Claiure Jordan’s pass to fire home her 21st of the campaign and Spa’s 100th of the season.

The Droitwich defence, lead by captain Emily Johnson and player of the match Lindsey Jones, continued to keep the away attack at bay restricting them to shots from outside the box.

They have one game remaining at home to Bartestree on Sunday (ko 2pm).

Droitwich’s head coach Ian Fry said: “This is a fantastic achievement for these girls. We have worked so hard over the last three seasons to set up and develop this team and this is our reward.

“To have achieved this success in such a short period of time is remarkable and I am so proud of all the girls. We’re looking forward to developing the club further over the coming seasons and to the challenge of our next campaign in the West Midlands league.”
