ADRIAN Mander has set his sights on Bromsgrove Sporting winning the title next season after the club tasted cup success for the first time.

The Rouslers completed their best campaign ever with a 4-1 win over Paget Rangers, which saw them lift the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup on Saturday.

It was the the club’s first piece of silverware since they replaced Bromsgrove Rovers and moved to the Victoria Ground.

From next season, the Midland Combination Premier will be the second tier of a new league after merging with the Midland Alliance this summer.

Mander said: “I have already started on my plans for next season but whatever division we are in we want to be challenging to win it.

“We’ve been the best team in the league in the second half of the season, so hopefully we can build on that and push on.”

Saturday’s victory at their home ground was watched by 408 fans, the biggest crowd of the year, the majority of which were supporting Bromsgrove as they finally ended their cup hoodoo.

“I always think the first cup you win is the hardest,” added Bromsgrove’s manager.

“I never felt under pressure, but the fact the club had not won one was always in the back of your mind.

“We’ve come close but when you get knocked out you starting thinking you are cursed.

“But it was great to win the cup for the fans, who were fantastic.”

Mander was also quick to praise winger Daniel Ludlow and striker Chris ‘Billy’ Russell, who both scored twice in Saturday’s cup rout.

He said: “Chris added some extra pace to our attack, just something a bit different.

“The wingers Dan Ludlow and Sean Williams have made a big difference, they have been fantastic.”

After the victory, the club held their end of season awards ceremony.

Mark Bellingham, who finished as the division’s top scorer with 45 goals, was named players’ player.

Matt Poyner was directors’ and committee’s player of the season, while Dan Morris was the supporters’ pick.
