DAN Protherough believes Bromsgrove's excellent set-up was one of the reasons why he took the head coach role at Finstall Park.

The new man will replace Ross Baxter this summer hoping to give the club a lift after their relegation from the Midlands National North.

He inherits a young side which its teeth last season.

"There is a very good structure at Bromsgrove which is dedicated to giving young players a chance," said Protherough.

"Some clubs spend money on bringing players in but that does not always create a lot of continuity.

"Instead, this clubs gives guys learning the game a chance to impress.

"If you look at some there have been a number of players who have moved onto higher ranked clubs, so players know they will get a chance at Bromsgrove.

"There's no shame in the club being a stepping stone, it means we can attract the best younger players because they will get a chance unlike at some other clubs."

Protherough joins the Boars with an excellent track record. He helped Droitwich Spa win promotion seven years ago.

In recent years he has been coaching at North Midlands RFU and was made head coach earlier in the year.

He recently also become a qualified teacher.

He also wants Bromsgrove to make a strong start to the season in the National Three Midlands.

"It's important to make a strong start but we're not setting any targets for next season," commented the head coach.

"To be honest the hard work starts in the summer, you have to make sure the team is ready.

"But I am very much looking forward to the challenge of coaching at Bromsgrove, which is a very well run club."
