EXCELLENT all-round performances from Jake Young and Aussie Kris Corbett could not prevent Droitwich from slipping to a one-run defeat against Worcester Nomads in County League Division One.
Needing four runs from the last over with only one wicket left at St Peter’s Fields, young spinner Ryan Kilminster was run out off the penultimate ball as Spa missed out on victory.
Earlier in the day, Droitwich bowled with good control through opening bowlers Corbett and the miserly Phil Thomas, who claimed 1-19 from his 10 overs with the new ball.
Off-spinner Kilminster dismissed Nomads dangermen Paul Pickering and William O’Driscoll to claim 3-46, while opener Sam Roberts carried his bat for 72.
Chasing 203 for victory in their 50 overs, Droitwich started brightly but lost early wickets.
With opener Jake Young looking in good form, he and stand-in skipper Paul Bryan (25) put together a partnership of 60.
After Young departed for a half-century, Corbett followed up his performance with the ball with an awesome display of hitting — powering his way to 52.
However his dismissal, with the score on 199, proved crucial as Droitwich stumbled.
Droitwich now entertain fellow strugglers Evesham at home on Saturday (1pm start).
