DAN Fox’s dream of winning the World Cup came to an end after England finished the tournament in Holland in fourth place.

The national team lost 2-0 to Argentina in the play-offs for third and fourth place after a brace from Matias Paredes on Sunday.

Argentina had the first real chance of the game, with Lucas Vila dribbling un-challenged into the English circle but shooting wide to the right of George Pinner’s post in the England goal.

With 12 minutes gone, Harry Martin had a great chance for England but with keeper Juan Vivaldi standing his ground, he was unable to keep control of the ball.

Both teams had looked blunt despite Nick Catlin and Ashley Jackson’s attacking approach from midfield for England.

A shot from Gonzalo Peillat’s was brilliantly saved by Pinner, with Barry Middleton backing up well on the line as he had done all tournament.

England forced Vivaldi into a double save, denying Mark Gleghorne and Jackson.

Bromsgrove-born Fox also produced a brilliant goal-saving block to deny Argentina.

But with 15 minutes to go, Peredes produced a clinical finish and the doubled the lead with an emphatic strike.

On Friday, England had been edged out 1-0 by Holland in a tight semi-final.
