DROITWICH Spa Men were edged out 4-3 at home by Evesham in the Summer League.

The same team which started the away fixture made a confident start and worked the ball out wide to Marcus Claytor and Matthew Darbyshire who created havoc with in the Evesham defence.

Darbyshire dribbled into the circle leaving defenders in his wake as he finished stylishly on the reverse stick to put Droitwich ahead.

Evesham kept being caught in possession as Spa push further forward allowing Alexei Payne, Richard Waters and Lee Wakelham to put extra pressure on the defence.

Craig Timmis scuffed an effort wide of the neat post, Matthew Lee undercut effort sailed over the bar before Claytor and Timmis failed to beat Evesham leeper from close range from another presentable chance.

Droitwich were made to pay for being profligate in front of goal as Evesham equalised from a penalty flick.

The visitors went ahead on 30 minutes with another penalty flick which was conceded by Darbyshire and an Evesham attacker dispatched a low flick into the bottom corner.

Droitwich opened the second half continuing in the same vein, putting attacking moves together with Lee Wakelham, Richard Water and Darbyshire at the heart of all of the best moves.

Their pressure finally told midway through the period as Joseph Neal popped up in the circle comfortably dispatching a flicked effort passed the keeper.

But the lead lasted all of seven minutes before Evesham edged ahead again with another neat finish.

Spa’s Matthew Lee missed a one-one-one to spurn a good chance to equalise.

But their leveller came from a fabulous left-handed cross from Darbyshire and Craig Timmis deflected the ball into the top right hand corner of the net to make it 3-3.

Evesham bagged the winner in the game’s dying seconds, Spa look to pick up the pieces next Wednesday as they entertain Worcester, in a match top be held at Worcester University.

l Meanwhile, Droitwich Ladies suffered their first defeat of the Summer League last week after being beaten 6-0 by Bromsgrove B.

Bromsgrove scored four goals in 18 minutes.
